The Next Best source is the Florida Atlas And Gazetteer ISBN 0-89933-209-9 published by DeLorme , P.O. Box 298 , Freeport , Maine 04032 , telephone number 207-865-4171 or the Internet at DeLorme. The Gazetteer is what we use on our trip list to signify where the trip will be held and how to get there. ( Like pg.58 A2.) It covers all the roads from Highways to Dirt roads and many of the boat Ramps. With these two sources you will be able to find your way around Florida to some of the best areas to paddle and camp in the State.

Barry Laffan Apalachee Archaeological Boat Trail
The nation's first archaeological boat trail opens March 21 in Florida. It is called the Barry Laffan Apalachee Archaeological Boat Trail and is an interpreted waterborne trail between the Ochlockonee River State Park and Mash Island Park in Wakulla County, 40 miles south of Tallahassee, FL. The trail interprets pre-historic shell middens and is best suited to shallow water craft such as canoes, kayaks. Boat ramps can be found on U.S. 98 at the bridge across Ochlockonee River or Ochlockonee River State Park, and Mash Island Park where the wide, shallow river empties into Apalachee Bay. This is the northern-most point in the Gulf of Mexico. Very little motorboat traffic, lots of birds and the shore line abuts the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, itself a great place to hike and bike. Brochures about the trail are available at area restaurants. Public boat ramps are at Ochlockonee River State Park, at the other end of the trail, 15 miles later (or earlier) at Mash Island Park in Wakulla County (at the mouth of the river with the Gulf of Mexico); at the public boat ramps on the river by the U.S. 98 bridge in Franklin County. This is an intepretive trail that doesn't have to be followed in any particular order. The boat ramps have an introductory text. Brochures are available locally only and aren't mailed out.
